Maternity

Our commitment to building healthy communities includes welcoming the tiniest members at the birthing facilities in six of our acute care hospitals.

With physicians who are national leaders in their field, our facilities offer outstanding support teams and nurses who hold specialty certifications in areas such as maternal-newborn care, fetal monitoring, childbirth education, telephone triage, and breastfeeding. The Hartford Hospital team also includes new providers studying in the University of Connecticut’s nationally recognized residency program in obstetrics and gynecology.

In addition, as part of Hartford HealthCare’s commitment to maternal health, all maternity patients are discharged wearing an orange bracelet that says “I GAVE BIRTH.” Patients are encouraged to wear the bracelet for the first eight weeks after delivery, when the risk for life-threatening complications is highest. This helps healthcare professionals recognize and properly assess symptoms.

Pediatric Care Alliance

The Pediatric Care Alliance is a partnership between Connecticut Children’s and Hartford HealthCare. Our two health systems have a history of collaboration, from newborn care to care for chronic illnesses and adult congenital heart disease. This alliance takes it further, helping families navigate the healthcare journey every step of the way, from birth to young adulthood.

Whatever care or support your family needs, the experts at Connecticut Children’s and Hartford HealthCare can provide it. This includes an array of health, social and emotional support programs across both health systems. The team includes neonatologists, pediatric care specialists and neonatal nurse practitioners ready to provide the care your baby needs.

Connecticut Children's flagship neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Hartford Hospital is a hub for newborn care throughout the region. Connecticut Children’s NICU is named one of the best in the country by U.S. News & World Report, staffed by a nationally-ranked nursing team, and leading important research.

	Hartford Hospital When new parents want to worry less and enjoy every moment more, they count on Hartford Hospital for all the peace-of-mind they need — from prenatal care and education to incredibly advanced ways to ensure the health of both mother and child during and after delivery.
	The Hospital of Central Connecticut It's one of the most wondrous, complex moments of life, marked by eager anticipation and excitement, yet touched by concern and apprehension. The Family BirthPlace is staffed by board-certified obstetricians, with specialists ready if needed 24 hours a day, including, on-site, board-certified anesthesiologists for pain control and perinatologists for high-risk pregnancies.
	MidState Medical Center The Maternity program at MidState Medical Center offers supportive medical consultation and access to state-of-the-art diagnostic testing for expecting mothers. Board-certified maternal-fetal medicine physicians will work closely with a mother's obstetrician to detect risk factors and coordinate care and follow her through her entire pregnancy to ensure a safe delivery for both mother and baby.
